Substance was released in August 1987 by Factory Records. Substance is a double-disc set collecting New Order’s singles, this assemblage of 12-inch singles and remixes charts New Order’s tranformation from gloom rockers to electro-disco pioneers. Club hits like “Blue Monday” and “Bizarre Love Triangle” are full of bass melodies that beat-loving guitar bands are still trying to figure out. these 12″ mixes represent New Order’s most groundbreaking and successful work, Substance collects the best of their remixes, and in the process it showcases not only the group’s musical innovations, but also their songwriting prowess — “Temptation,” “Blue Monday,” “Bizarre Love Triangle,” and “True Faith” are some of the finest pop songs of the ’80s. In 2003, Substance was ranked number 363 on Rolling Stone‍ ’​s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. According to the magazine, it had sold over one million copies by that time
